Auto-rickshaw driver shot dead in Vavuniya

An auto rickshaw driver was shot dead by unidentified men in the northern town of Vavuniya, Saturday night. The driver was identified as Sathees Thamotharampillai, 21, of Railway Station Road, Vairavapuliyankulam, police said.

The men had hired the vehicle, Saturday night, for a trip to Koomankulam, his mother who had seen the men said. She added that when her son did not return home during the night they started looking for his son Sunday.

The driver's body was found found Sunday morning, Vavuniya police said.

The police said the driver had been assaulted before he was shot and killed. Gun shot marks were also found on the auto which was found abondoned near by, the police said.

Mr.M.Sittampalam, Additional Magistrate of Vavuniya, has ordered the police to conduct investigations.
