Reports from the Vanni said that four fishermen have gone missing in an attack by the Sri Lankan Navy early this morning around 5.45 a.m. on fishing boats in the seas off the Mullaithivu coast. Others who went in search of them later in the morning found only some nets and buoys where the Navy had attacked the fishing boats.
They said that it appeared that the boats of the missing fisherman have been sunk by the Navy. The missing fishermen, Kanesh Thambirathevan 19, kandasamy Ranganathan, 32 and Veluppillai Vettivelayutham were displaced from Uduththurai and M.Thuraisingham was displaced from Aaliayavalai both in Vadamaradchi east in Jaffna due to SLA operations. A large number of fishing families which were displaced from the coast of Vadamaradchi east in 1991-92 due to the expansion of the Elephant Pass camp towards Vettilaikkerni, are plying their trade from Mullaithivu now.
