PLOTE raids porn theatre

[TamilNet, Thursday, 09 April 1998, 23:59 GMT]
A video parlour showing pornographic films near Kalliyankadu bus halt on the Jaffna - Pt. Pedro road in the Jaffna peninsula was raided yesterday morning by the People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) while a show was in progress said a spokesman of the group. The PLOTE had taken in three persons who were running the 'mini theatre'.

PLOTE sources said that the three persons who were caught had begun to 'squeal' under interrogation about a large number of porn movie theatres and other such operations which have mushroomed in Jaffna town and its suburbs since last year.

They said that they have not yet decided to hand over the matter to the Sri Lankan Police or army.

There have been allegations in sections of the Tamil press that some of these illicit activities are taking place with the tacit approval of sections of the Sri Lankan security forces deployed in Jaffna.

The venue of the show was in the upper floor of the building in which the Tamil Eelam Transport Board of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had its head office until October 1995.

The board was in charge of co-ordinating all civilian transport activities in the northern province when most of it was dominated by the Liberation Tigers.
