The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Saturday told Thenmaradchchi Divisional Secretary
in Jaffna district that it is not possible for it to remove the forward
defense camp from Usan village for security reasons. However the civil
groups of the area have told the DS that they would launch a picketing in
front of the DS office from Monday forcing the closure of the office,
demanding the removal of SLA camp immediately, sources in Jaffna said.
Thenamaradchchi DS Mr. K.Srinivasan said that 55th Commanding Officer of
the SLA had informed by letter that they are not in a position to remove
the camp as they find very difficult to select an alternate land ensuring
security and other facilities. The headquarters of the 55 Division of the SLA is located in Usan, sources
said.
