Navaly domestic wells turn brackish

Almost all domestic wells in Navaly village in Jaffna district have become brackish due to a canal, which goes through the village from Thondamanaru lagoon where seawater enters during latter part of the year. About 300 families living in the village face shortage of good drinking water, sources said.

Villagers walk about 3 k.m. daily to Anaicoddai junction to fetch good drinking water for their domestic use, the sources said.

Villagers complain that they are fed up with sending appeals to the relevant authorities and parliamentarians to make immediate arrangement to supply good drinking water to them. All representations have fallen on deaf ears, they lament.
