Swedish Government has come forward to provide necessary funds to renovate
and reopen the abandoned Eluthumadduval Government Tamil Mixed School
building which is located in the high security zone close to the forward
defense line of the Sri Lanka Army in Thenmaradchchi division in Jaffna
district, education sources said.
The school has been in the HSZ occupied by the SLA soldiers for the last
four years. New classrooms need to be constructed to
recommence classes, which are now being conducted elsewhere outside the HSZ,
sources said. As a first step the Swiss government has allocated 3.15 million rupees for
the construction of classrooms. The construction work will be done under
the supervision of the provincial education department through the private
sector, sources said. Officials related to the proposed projected visited the site this week. Meanwhile
Principal of the school has asked all students under Grade 5 to register
their names on Monday at Maruthankulam Community Centre or Mirusuvil Roman
Catholic School in order to return to the Eluthumadduval School once it is
re-opened, education sources said.
