English Language College opened in Kilinochchi

The opening ceremony of an English Language College run by Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) was held on the new College premises at Jeyanthynagar, Kilinochchi, Monday. Twenty five students who currently are working for TRO projects have completed the English courses. Twenty student teachers will commence training at the College on Monday 20 September and a new term of classes at Beginner, Elementary and Intermediate level will commence in October, according to TRO officials in Kilinochchi.

The traditional oil lamp was lit by Mr Paramanathan (UK), Professor Ramasamy (Malaysia) and Mr Vahkiswaran (Australia). The Tamil Eelam national flag was raised by Mr S Thangan, Deputy Leader, Political Wing of the LTTE, followed by a minutes silence. The welcome address was made by Ms Julia Hume, a teacher at the College. The name board of the college was unveiled by Mr Gopal of Vanni Technological College. The opening of each building was marked by the cutting of a ribbon by the special guests.

Mrs Margaret Pararajasingham, principal of the College, made an address discussing the enthusiasm which has been shown by the current students in improving their English and thanked Mr K.P.Regi of TRO for his support of the development of the College.

Mr Thangan in his address encouraged all students to take English with them and pass on the new knowledge to others.

Certificates were then awarded to students who have completed English courses run by the College in the past 4 months.

Special prizes were presented to Kanaganayagam Kagenthirakumar for achieving the highest marks in the Beginner level course, Jamunah Arumainathan for achieving the highest marks in the Elementary level course and Niththiyanantharajah Piratheepan for exemplary dedication, attendance and participation in the course. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by top student Jamunah Arumainathan.
