Leigh Smith, a top martial art specialist from Rochdale, Manchester, United Kingdom is visiting Kilinochchi on 26 September on the invitation of Karate Grand master Bonnie Roberts to teach in a Kilinochchi orphanage, Rochdale county paper in UK reported.
“I get quite a number of e-mailed requests to teach abroad, so when I received a query about going to Sri Lanka, I decided to do a bit of research. I discovered the person I had been corresponding with was part of the Tamil Tiger group and was keen for me to go over, see his own classes, teach at an orphanage and
speak to students,” the paper quoted Mr. Smith as saying. Mr Smith is keen to foster good links between the two countries and is looking forward to the whole experience, the report said. Mr Smith, who has six black belts, has taught in Russia and in Latvia but spent most of his karate career teaching his own group Saxon Karate, which meets at Wardle High School, in Rochdale.
