Association for Preservation of Natural Resources in Vadamaradchchi East
Wednesday made an appeal to the Jaffna District Government Agent to take
immediate steps to provide electricity supply to villages in the division.
The President of the Association has brought to the notice of the Government
Agent Mr.S.Pathmanathan that several villages in Vadamaradchchi east
division have not been provided with electricity. Before 1990, efforts were made
to provide electricity supply to some of the villages in the division.
Concrete posts were delievered to the villages and some were erected. However the attempt did not
materialize. Now a new attempt is being made to commence work on
electrification project from Vallipuram area. "We feel the current attempt also would fail if the officials of the
Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) do not carry out the work before monsoon rain sets
in," said the President of the Association in his letter. Copies of the letter have been sent to the Jaffna Electrical
Superintendent, Special Commander of the Sea Tigers and Vadamarachchi East
Assistant Government Agent.
