Part time English teachers protest in Jaffna

About one hundred members of the North-East Part Time English Teachers' Association Thursday morning held a picketing in front of the Jaffna district office of the Additional Provincial Director of Education demanding permanent appointment without delay. The picket continued till after noon about 2 p.m., sources said.

Picketers did not allow officials and employees to enter the office and those employees who reported for work before the commencement of the picketing were not allowed to leave the office for lunch, sources said.

At that time of picketing education officials who earlier reported for work had been holding a conference in the office regarding the decline of education standard in the district, sources said.

Later the picketers handed over memoranda to Jaffna Director of Education and the Thamileelam Educational Forum, sources said.
