Soccer battles mark Women's Uprising Day celebrations

District level competition in women soccer marked the second day of the Tamil Womens' Uprising Day celebrations and 17th year memorial of 2nd Lt Malathy at the Kilinochchi Uthayatharahai play grounds Friday, sources in Vanni said. Deputy Head of LTTE Women's Sea Tiger Wing, Ms Poorani, presided the event.

Head of the Sports Division of LTTE, Paapa, lit the common flame. Special Commander of Women's Wing of Sea Tigers, Ms Viduthalai hoisted the Tamil Eelam national flag. Sports coach, Mr.Pathmanathan paid floral tribute to 2nd Lt.Malthi's picture frame before the start of soccer tournament.

Special commander of Malathi brigade, Col.Vithusha, Head of LTTE Women's Political Section, Thamilini and Paapa were introduced to the players of teams from Mannar district and Mullaitivu district before the game which was won by Mullaitivu team 4-0.

Soccer tournament is expected to continue Saturday.
