LTTE delegation meets Dutch Foreign Affairs Ministry Official

Liberation Tigers’ delegation led by Head of Political Wing, S.P.Thamilchelvan met with Mr. Robert Milders, Director Asia and Oceania Department of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Dutch Ministry building Tuesday, LTTE sources said. The Dutch official stressed the urgent need for resumption of talks between the Sri Lanka Government and the LTTE so that the humanitarian needs of the people can be addressed without delay.

Photo: Alex/LTTEMr. Milders assured the support of people of Netherlands for the peace process and for providing humanitarian assistance to the NorthEast Thamilchelvan briefed Mr.Milders on the current political situation and added that the LTTE believes that consensus in the South is necessary for the recommencement of talks and that the Sri Lanka Government should seek the support of the opposition to brake the deadlock. Earlier Tuesday the delegation met with Prof. Dr. Ir. George E. Frerks, Head Conflict Research Unit and Bart Klem, Research Associate at the Netherlands Institute of International Relations at Clingendael, the research team gave a presentation on studies undertaken the Institute in Colombo and NorthEast. The LTTE delegation Monday met with the Director and officials of the Environment and Water Division where matters related to drinking water and salinity in NorthEast were discussed.
