Seized heroin, ganja destroyed in Mannar

A consignment of three and a half kilo of heroin and three and a half kilo of ganja seized by the vigilant group of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) when being smuggled into the island during the weekend was destroyed in the presence of public in the heart of Pesalai police division in Mannar district Tuesday around noon, civil sources said.

LTTE Mannar district political head Mr.Anpuraj with his associates Mr.Nilavan and Mr.Thenral was present when the consignment was being set on fire in Pesalai bazaar. The three alleged smugglers caught red-handed with drugs were also brought to the site, sources said

LTTE vigilante group seized heroin on December 10 and ganja on December 11 when being brought to Mannar from India by boat by three men, sources said.

LTTE vigilante group in Mannar is campaigning to stop smuggling of heroin and other prohibited drugs into the country from India by sea through Mannar, civil sources said.
