Jaffna RRAN fraud case put off

Jaffna magistrate friday ordered to strike off from the trial roll the case on forty seven million rupees fraud in the construction ofl public markets and a home for the aged under the Rehabilition,Reconstruction Authority for North(RRAN) during the Peoples Alliance govt in 2001. Magistrate R.T Viknarajah said the case would off the trial roll until the instruction of the attorney general is received.

Police filed this case on a complaint by the rehabilitation ministry secretary in june 2003.

The alleged fraud had taken place in the construction of public markets in Thinnevelii, Kokuvil, Chavakachcheri and in the rehabilitation of Kaithadi elders home.

The total sum allocated for these projects was 47 million rupees.

Mr. Douglas devananda leader of the paramilitary EPDP and a close ally President Kumaratunga was the minister in charge of RRAN at that time.
