Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Friday expressed grief over the demise of Shri P.V.Narasimha Rao, former Prime Minister of India. Shri Narasimha Rao died Thursday in New Delhi in India at the age of 83 following a heart attack.
Mr.R.Sampanthan, Secretary General of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) and the parliamentary group leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Friday issued a condolence message over the death of Shri Narasimha Rao. The message follows: "We have received the news of the death of Shri P.V.Narasimha Rao, former External Affairs Minister and Prime Minister of India with much sadness. "Shri Narasimha Rao visited Sri Lanka at the height of the anti-Tamil pogrom in 1983 as the special emissary of the Prime Minister of India Shrimathi Indra Gandhi. It was after the visit of Shri Narasimha Rao, that the tide of violence against the Tamil people subsided. "Shri Narasimha Rao continued to take a keen interest in the peaceful resolution of the Tamil question in Sri Lanka. He was an erudite scholar. To meet with him and receive his wise and mature advice was always a privilege. "We convey to the family of the late Shri P.V.Narasimha Rao, and to the Government of India, and people of India, our deepest sympathies on the passing away of an outstanding personality."
