Interactive learning method for students in NE

North East Provincial Ministry of Education has introduced a new learning technique to Tamil medium GCE ordinary level students through Compact Disc (CD) prepared based on school syllabus in Electronics, Botany, Mathematics and Science. These CDs could be purchased by students from their schools and zonal education offices, education sources said.
Mr.R.Thiayakalingam, Provincial Education Ministry Secretary recently at an event held at Trincomalee Vivekananda College, released the first CD prepared, on experimental basis by a special team of the Provincial Department of Education under the direction of Ms A.Vethanayakam, Deputy Director of Education who is in charge of the project. The Audio-Video Unit of the Provincial Department of Education headed by Mr.S.Dominic, Assistant Director of Education is in charge of the production of CDs. Mr.K.Sounthararajah, Assistant Director of Education (Science) presided over the event. Ms Vethanayakam said CD for Mathematics has already been released on experimental basis in Jaffna district where it has received wide support from parents and students. Parents should encourage their children to learn through CDs.
Currently computers and television sets are only used for entertainment purpose in homes. This trend should be changed, she said. Jaffna district parliamentarian Mr.K.Sivanesan has agreed to release one hundred thousand rupees from his decentralised budget next year for the extension of the project throughout the northeast province, Ms Vethanayakam said.
