100,000 Children distressed, 3000 orphaned- TRO

Out of the 100,000 or more families from the villages destroyed in the North and East by the Tsunami disaster, 3000 children have lost one or both parents, TRO officials said.
Children who have lost their father, mother or both are now either living in welfare centres or with their relatives. Tamil Rehabilitation Organization is preparing detailed plans to provide long term care for these children, TRO officials said. The TRO officials added that the administrative and personal skills TRO staff have acquired caring for victims of the 20 years long war has placed TRO in a unique position to handle the humanitarian crisis unfolding after the tsunami disaster. TRO has requested all parties interested in the welfare of orphaned children to contact and register at the TRO district offices and local NGOs.
