Norwegian Red Cross medical team arrives in Eachchilampathu

Norwegian Red Cross Society has sent a medical team comprising 20 members
at the request of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRC) to serve in
Trincomalee district. The team which includes a surgeon, gynaecologist,
paediatrician, psychiatrist, physician, water sanitation engineer and
nurses arrived in the LTTE controlled Eachchilampathu division, down south
of the Trincomalee district Tuesday.
Norwegian team is to set up a temporary hospital in Eeachilampathu village
to provide medical service to victims of Tsunami and recent flood for a
period of three months, Dr.E.G.Gnanagunalan, Chairman of the SLRC,
Trincomalee district branch said. Dr.Gnanagunalan accompanied the team to Eachchilampathu by Allai-Kantalai
road with eight lorry loads of medical equipments, medicine, generators and
other materials needed for a full-fledged hospital. Dr.Gnanagunalan said the Norwegian temporary hospital will have an
operating theatre and would serve the people up to Vakarai village and the
entire Eachchilampathu division now undergoing difficulties without proper
medical facilities.
