GTZ releases booklet on School Nutrition

A Training manual "School Health and Nutrition" prepared by the Teacher In-service Project (TIP) under the German Technical Co-operation (GTZ) funding was ceremonially released at an event held Wednesday afternoon at the provincial education ministry auditorium, sources said. Dr.S.Abraham, Deputy Provincial Director of Health Services, was the chief guest at the event.

North East Provincial Council for the northeast schools collaborated in the book project. Mr.Sundaram Divakalala, Technical Advisor, handed over the first copy to Dr.Abraham. Mr Divakalala, in his welcome address, said that since 1999 GTZ has been implementing educational projects to uplift the standard of education in the northeast province especially in Vanni region where education of children suffered heavily during the period of war.

GTZ funded a survey to identify problems confronting the educational development in Vanni region following the signing of the ceasefire agreement. GTZ has been well known for striving to create a balanced society in the northeast, he added. GTZ had earlier produced two other training manuals, "Joyful Learning" and "Child mental Health," which contributed to the development of education in the war-torn areas.

Mr.R.Thiayakalingam, Provincial Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs in his address commended the services of the GTZ in the field of education. Mr.Muthu Radhakrishnan, Assistant Director of Education introduced the manual to the audience. Dr.Abraham also spoke. Ms S.Nadarajah, Chief Trainer, proposed vote of thanks.
