SLA bans transport of torch batteries to Muttur east
[TamilNet, Friday, 22 April 2005, 19:06 GMT]
Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers
of Tamil Eelam
(LTTE) Friday lodged a complaint with the Sri Lanka Monitoring
Mission (SLMM) in Trincomalee that soldiers in the Kaddaiparichchan Sri
Lanka Army are preventing people taking torch batteries to and from LTTE
controlled Muttur east villages. Kaddaiparichchan SLA camp is located on
the border of the SLA and LTTE controlled areas in the Muttur division,
sources said.
Mr.Elilan made the complaint following representations from Muttur east
residents. Since the signing of the ceasefire agreement by the Government
of Sri Lanka (GOSL) and the LTTE three years ago, Muttur east villagers are
allowed to take with them torch light batteries and other items needed for
their domestic purposes without any restriction. However soldiers manning the check point at Kaddapaiparichchan since
Wednesday are not allowing Muttur east residents to take torch batteries
with other provision when they return from the army controlled areas. SLA
soldiers are not even allowing Muttur east villagers to take torch
batteries to the army-controlled area through Kaddaiparichchan, LTTE
sources said.
