Community Centre opened in Trincomalee

The Trincomalee district branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) supported by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) organized several humanitarian activities in its twenty-two units in the district to mark the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. Shramadana campaigns ,and medical clinics were conducted, and essential food items were supplied to the needy in the welfare centres, sources said.

Dr.E.G.Gnanagunalan, Chairman of the SLRCS, Trincomalee branch Monday, declared open a community centre hall for the tsunami victims of Katchchunaikal in the Nilaveli area now sheltered in transit camps in Igbal Nagar. Ms Elin Jonasdottir, Psycho-Social delegate of the DRC unveiled the name board of the community centre.

Medical clinics were conducted in welfare centres located in Gopalapuram and Allesgarden. Clothes and other essential materials were distributed to the inmates of the welfare centre located in Sumedhagama, a suburb in Trincomalee town, sources said.
