General shut down continues in Trinco

General shut down observed by Tamil people in Trincomalee town since Tuesday entered third day Thursday, demanding the removal of Buddha statue erected in the land which is close to the bus stand and also used to park three wheelers. Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples Forum (TDTPF) has organized this hartal, sources said.

Schools were closed, provincial council offices, bank branches did not function and transport services came to a standstill. The Trincomalee Urban Council did not function. Delivery of mails did not take place. Markets did not function, sources said.

TDTPF sources said the general shut down would continue till the removal of the Buddha statue.
