Methodist Church donates boats to tsunami-hit fishermen

The Methodist Church of Sri Lanka handed over four fishing boats with engines and fishing gear to tsunami affected fishermen in Kallady and Verugal Muhathuwaram in the Eachchilampathu division in the down south of Trincomalee district.
The handing over event took place recently with Mr.S.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head, church sources said. Each boat will be used a group of four fishermen. Twelve beneficiaries were present at the occasion, sources said. Mr.Elilan handed over the first boat to a beneficiary followed by Mr.Vaiyavan of Sea Tigers, Mr.Theepan of Fisheries Co-operatives Federation and Rev Terrence, Pastor of Trincomalee Methodist Church. Mr.Elilan speaking at the event said he was glad to note that the Methodist Church of Sri Lanka has donated boats to tsunami-affected fishermen in remote coastal villages, neglected by the government for several years. He
expected more assistance to the needy villagers from such organizations in the future.
