Two die in boat mishap in Trincomalee

Mr.S.Rajanikanth (26), a young Attorney-at-Law of Trincomalee and Mr.S. Sanjeevan (34), a Hatton National Bank employee Sunday morning died in a boat mishap in Periyakulam tank which is located about fourteen km north off Trincomalee town. This incident took place when they went to Periyakulam tank for a dip, police said.

The two deceased accompanied by two other friends went to Periyakulam tank Sunday morning for a weekend holiday. They got into a small canoe in the tank for a drive. Suddenly the canoe capsized due to heavy blowing. Two of them escaped but Mr.Rajanikanth and Mr.Sanjeevan drowned, police said

Sri Lanka navy divers stationed closeby rushed to the site and recovered the body of Mr.Sanjeevan around 3 p.m. SLN divers left the site as their attempt to recover Mr.Rajanikanth body from the crocodile infested tank proved futile. Thereafter local divers of the village recovered the body of Mr.Rajanikanth at about 6.30 p.m.with great difficulties, sources said.

Bodies of the dead were brought to the Trincomalee general hospital, police said.
