Jaffna officials discuss district development

A conference on Jaffna develpment was held at the Jaffna Secretariat between 10 am and 12 noon Monday presided by Jaffna district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) senior parliamentarian Maavia Senathirajah, TNA sources in Jaffna said.

Government Agent (GA) of Jaffna Mr.K.Ganesh, and Kilinochchi GA, Mr.T.Rasanayagam, attended the conference.

Parliamentarians Ms Pathmini Sithamparanathan, K Sivajilingam, K Eelaventhan, Suresh Premachandran and S Sivanesan participated in the discussions.

Discussions centered on the immediate and urgent need for development in the district. Pariticipants agreed that Health, Education, interior roads, electricity distribution, water supply, pre-schools and infrastructure should be given the highest priority.

The attendees further resolved that needs of tsunami affected people of the district should also be given preference.

Temporary measures should be taken to take forward the development until a more permanent mechanism for NorthEast development is agreed upon, the officials concluded.
