Sangiliyan Force HQ denies killing

In contrary to its earlier message, the Sangiliyan Force said in a statement issued in Jaffna yesterday, that it did not assassinate the Jaffna Mayor Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran.

The statement issued by the spokesman for the group's head office, K. Maniyappan, said that the group's Jaffna organiser had claimed responsibility for the killing before confirming that it was Sangiliyan Force that had killed Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran.

The statement also said, that it had warned Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran earlier and she was on its hit list.

However, some other power seeking Tamil group had killed Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran, said the statement.

The statement also denied the claim in some news reports that it is affiliated to the Liberation Tigers.

Meanwhile, the TULF's Trincomalee branch, while expressing its deep sadness over the killing of Mayor of Jaffna Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran, had urged the TULF leader that party to take necessary measures to find out the truth behind the killing of Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran.

The Sri Lankan Government first blamed the Liberation Tigers for the killing. Later it said that the 'Sangiliyan Force' had claimed responsibility for the assassination of Mrs. Sarojini Yogeswaran said the message.

Before blaming the Liberation Tigers or Sangiliyan Force, the party should take necessary initiative to carry an inquiry to find out who carried this killing, the message said.
