Playwright, youths felicitated in Trincomalee

Sixty-eight -year-old Mr.Sithy Amerasingam who was conferred with "Elder Artist" by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs recently in Colombo was again felicitated in his hometown Trincomalee. Four Trincomalee youths who him four youths who excelled in education, sports, social service and literature were also honoured at the same event held at Trincomalee Hindu Cultural Hall

Mr.Sithy Amerasingam was taken in a procession from Trincomalee Pathirakali Amman Temple to the Cultural Hall. Mr.R.Rajaranjan, Trincomalee District Commissioner of Scout presided.

Mr.Amarasingham is a dramatist, has written several plays and books, and acted in a Tamil film "Thenralum Puyalum" produced in Sri Lanka. He is the director of a publishing house and has published several Tamil books written by leading Tamil scholars in Trincomalee. Organization presented a memento to Mr.Sithy Amerasingam. Mr.S.Thandayuthapani, Vavuniya North Zonal Director of Education who was the chief guest presented a motorbike to Mr.Amarasingham on behalf of the public of Trincomalee. Four youths Mr. Sivaraja Kokulan who excelled in Education, Ms P.Mary Santhi, Karate, Mr.B.Velavan, Literature, and Mr. G.Kajeeban, Social Service, were presented with shields by leading citizens of the town, sources said.
