Foundation stones laid for new children's homes

Foundations stones for United Kingdom based charity, White Pigeon, funded new building for children home Gandhi illam for boys in 8th Canal, Kilinochchi district, and for another children home for girls, Barathi Illam in Mulliayavallai, Mullaitivu district were laid Thursday at 10.30am and 5.15 pm, sources said.
Dr Moorthy, President of White Pigeon, presented a check for Rs 1m to Director of Children's Homes, Mr Ravi.
Executive Director of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), K P Regi, TRO's Planning Officer Mr Varan, officals and several students participated in the ceremony at Gandhi Illam. Barathi Children's Home currently functions in a temporary building in Vallilpunam area in Mullaitivu district. White Pigeon, registered as a social service organization in Sri Lanka in 1996, provides prosthetic services and has recently expanded its activities to include mine clearing and educating the public and school children on the precautions to be taken to avoid becoming victims to land mines.
