Trincomalee district political secretariat of the Liberation Tigers of
Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and the Trincomalee District National Resurgence Forum
(TDNRF) Saturday condemned the grenade attack on the house of
Mr.V.Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples'
Forum (TDTPF), Friday night by an unidentified person, sources in Trincomalee said.
Mr.Vigneswaran's house is located about three km of the east port town in Anpuvallipuram on Trincomalee-Kandy road. Mr.Vigneswaran is the key figure in leading the campaign for the removal of Buddha statue from the site, which is situated in the vicinity of the Trincomalee central bus stand since it was erected on the midnight of May 15 this year. "We strongly condemn the grenade attack on Mr.Vigneswaran by racial and criminal elements last Friday," said LTTE Trincomalee district political secretariat said in a statement released Saturday. TDNRF said in a statement " the grenade attack on Mr.Vigneswaran house was a cowardly act committed against the Tamil nationalism. Those anti-national elements engaged in such type of attacks cannot defeat Tamils who work for the liberation of Tamil people. In contrary, such attacks would strengthen the nationalist feelings of Tamil people. We condemn this attack on a civil society official," sources said.
