Hundreds of civilians Friday held a demonstration in front of the Point
Pedro Divisional Secretariat office in Jaffna district protesting against
the discrimination shown to them in providing tsunami relief and demanded
immediate distribution of relief without delay, sources said.
Vadamaradchchi Women Development Association organized the demonstration. People from Viyaparimoolai, Thikkam and other villages in the division
gathered at the site around 10 a.m. They shouted slogans and carried
placards that they had not been provided any relief since the tsunami
struck coastal areas, sources said. They also condemned the lethargic attitude of government agencies concerned in
providing relief to them. One of the organisers said they would launch a
continuous agitation from Monday if the demand were not met, sources said.
