Civilian shot in Valaichenai

Mr. Kanapathipillai Ilaiathamby, 40, was shot and injured Sunday around 8:00 p.m. at his house on School Road at Kalkuddah in Valaichenai.

Unidentified gunmen who came to his house Sunday evening asked the victim to come out and shot him at his chest and hands before fleeing the premises, residents said.

The reason behind the killing was not clear, according to Kalkudah Police conducting investingations into the shooting incident.

The victim is not known to have any links with political or armed activities, according to neighbours.

The gunmen used a 9 mm handgun, Police said.

Kalkudah is located 34 km. north of Batticaloa.
