Danish Demining Group briefs Jaffna media trainees

Forty four percent of land mines and anti personnel explosives are buried in Jaffna district, said Ms Bodil Jacobsen, Programme Supervisor of the Danish Demining Group (DDG), at a discussion held with trainees of the Media Research and Training Centre of the Jaffna University Saturday, sources said.

DDG has been engaged in removing mines in Jaffna deploying five teams with about 200 local volunteers. The Jaffna district would become free of mines within the stipulated time if the current peace environ continues, said Ms Bodil Jacobsen, sources said.

DDG has deployed about five hundred volunteers with six international monitors to conduct Demining work in Jaffna, Trincomalee and Vanni areas, she added.
