Committee formed to co-ordinate psychosocial counselling

In a meeting held at the Planning and Development Secretariat (PDS) in Kilinochchi 10.30 am Saturday to draw plans for further promoting effective delivery of psycho-social services, Rev Father Edmond Reginald was elected to lead a Committee that is tasked to co-ordinate such efforts in the NorthEast, sources in Kilinochchi said. Director of TamilEelam Health Services, S Vickraman presided the event.
"Although several organizations have been providing psychological counselling during the war, Health Services sector has determined that there is currently an urgent need to review the decisions taken in the past, revisit projects not completed and to co-ordinate delivery of services in psychosocial counselling and mental health interventions taking into account the several cultural challenges facing us. "Father Reginald has been an advocate of psychosocial counselling and through the long period of war and has been instrumental in providing counselling services to our community through his organization "Annai Illam (Mothers Home)," said Vicraman. Several psychologists, counsellors and co-ordinators from several Organizations providing psychosocial counselling attended the event. .
