Two soldiers remanded in Inuvil killing

Mallakam Magistrate Ms Sarojini Ilankovan Friday night ordered remand till August 20th for two Sri Lanka Army soldiers in connection with the killing of Jeyaseelan Santharoopan Thursday afternoon inside the hairdressing saloon in Inuvil in Jaffna district, legal sources said.

Chunnakam Police produced the two soldiers at the residence of the Magistrate under heavy security, legal sources said.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Ms Ilankovan Friday visited the hair-dressing saloon at Inuvil where the killing the incident took place Thursday. She did not inspect the site Thursday due to the tense situation that prevail in the area following the killing, legal sources said.

Earlier the Chunnakam Police arrested five SLA soldiers in connection with the Inuvil shooting. Three of them were later released on a report after preliminary inquiry that they were at the site without arms. Two soldiers who were seen outside the saloon with arms were later produced before the magistrate, legal sources said.

The Magistrate Thursday night held the inquest into the death of Mr.Jeyseelan Santharoopan in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Thereafter she ordered the hospital authorities to hand over the body to the deceased relatives, legal sources said.
