Tsunami affected Muslims protest in Kattankudy

More than one thousand Muslims demonstrated in front of Katankudy Divisional Secretariat Monday morning demanding permanent solution and compensation to the victims affected by the Sri Lankan Government-declared 200 meter buffer zone following the December 26 tsunami. Protesters built temporary huts in front of the secretatiat and cooked on the street during the picketing, sources said.

Demonstrators complained that seven months have passed and the Sri Lanka Government has not decided on a permanent solution to this issue.
More than 300 Muslim families are affected by the 200 buffer-zone declared by Colombo. The picketing began around 8:00 a.m. in front of the DS office which was at standstill following the picketing. 108 Muslim persons died in Kattankudy and 93 persons are still enlisted as missing.
