UNP to hold 140 presidential election rallies

Sri Lanka's main opposition, the United National Party (UNP) is to hold one hundred election rallies in support of its presidential candidate Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe. Twenty of the rallies will be held before the nomination date, party sources said.
Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe will address all the 100 election rallies. Mr.Karu Jayasuriya, Deputy leader of the UNP will address forty more such rallies separately, according to the sources. Meanwhile, fifty ninth annual convention of the United National Party (UNP) is to be held on 6 September at its headquarters, 'Sri Kotha' in Colombo and a special convention of the party on 17 September at Colombo Municipal Council grounds to kick off the presidential election campaign in full swing, party sources said. About ten thousand delegates from party branches from all over the island are expected to attend the special convention on 17 September. Presidential candidate Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe is to make a keynote address outlining the party's position in the election campaign, Mr.Tissa Attanayake, Deputy general Secretary and a spokesman of the UNP said.
