An electricity transformer exploded in Kadawatte, a suburb of the Sri Lankan capital Colombo around 3.30 a.m. today, said sources. Oil leaking from a container on the transformer is believed to have caused the explosion, sources said.

owever the Sri Lankan Police does not rule out sabotage for the oil leak and the blast.

This is the second transformer that has been destroyed in an explosion recently in this area.

A telephone exchange was also badly damaged in an explosion last Saturday.
