Police ordered to produce LTTE suspect in Mallakam courts

Mallakam Magistrate Ms Sarojini Ilankovan Wednesday ordered the Kankesanthurai Police to produce Mr.Velautham (25), a LTTE Sea Tiger who is being held at the KKS police station, in court on September 20, legal sources said. She made this order after visiting the suspect in the KKS police station.

Earlier the KKS Police made an application in court seeking its permission to detain the suspect in the police station for further interrogation without produce him in court for security reason, legal sources said.

Thereafter the Magistrate visited the KKS police station and met the suspect, legal sources said.

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) captured the suspect for allegedly possessing arms when his boat was seen in the vicinity of the high security zone of the KKS harbour and handed over him to the KKS police.

According to the suspect, he was arrested by the SLN when his boat was drifting towards the KKS harbour and another cadre accompanying him in the boat had swam to the shore, sources said.
