Trinco SLA claim success

Sri Lankan Army (SLA) sources said that their troops had successfully completed an operation against the Liberation Tigers (LTTE) in the Trincomalee district, destroying three abandoned LTTE camps in the region.

map_pulmoddai.gif'Operation Jayaboomi' was launched on Saturday and completed yesterday evening, they said.

Troops advanced through the Pariya karaichchi jungles, 12 km north of Nilaveli and destroyed three abandoned LTTE camps in Thiriyai and Yan Oya areas, they said.

Pariya karaichchi jungles which links up with the jungles of Thiriyai and Yan Oya in the south-western hinterland of Pulmoddai.

The Tigers had withdrawn from the camps as the troops began advancing into the region said the sources. The camps were burnt by the troops they added.

The SLA troops withdrew to their bases last evening, they added.

The operation was launched to bring the Kuchchaveli- Trincomalee road under army control, SLA sources said this morning.

Details of casualties are not known.

The LTTE has not commented on the incident.
