Puthur hospital functioning and UNICEF warns of SLA landmines
Puthur hospital functioningThe St. Lucas Methodist hospital of Puthur is being renovated. The hospital's OPD has already begun to function. Hospital authorities said that the wards will also be repaired soon. The hospital sustained extensive damages during the Riviresa Operation due to heavy shelling by the SLA. Patients who had to travel all the way to Jaffna town from Puthur will greatly benefit when the reconstruction work in the hospital is complete.
UNICEF warns of SLA landminesThe UNICEF has put up posters in the Jaffna peninsula warning people about the dangers of stray landmines that have been left behind in many areas by the SLA. The posters pictorially explain how anti personnel land mines can be detected and avoided. This follows many incidents in Jaffna where a large number of people have been killed and injured. Two people injured by anti personnel landmines in Vasavilan and Inuvil in the Valigamam sector were admitted to the Jaffna hospital last week.
