Jaffna postal voting to complete on Monday

[TamilNet, Sunday, 06 November 2005, 12:14 GMT]
Election officials have made arrangements for Jaffna government workers who have been assigned for election duty to execute their postal votes on Monday, sources said. Amid security concerns and calls from different civil organizations including Consortium of Tamil Speaking Peoples Trade Unions to boycott postal votes, the earlier announced two days have been reduced to a single day.

The statement from the consortium said: "...we appeal to all Tamil speaking public servants to express their feelings that they are not prepared to be deceived anymore by Sinhala political parties and to inform the international community the true position of the Tamil speaking people," said the statement of the trade union.

However, Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) through workers at the Hindu Cultural Ministry is canvassing the government workers to cast their votes in favor of presidential candidate Mr Mahinda Rajapakse, sources in Jaffna said.
