A member of the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO), attached to the ex-militant organisation's intelligence group, is reported to have been shot dead by suspected Liberation Tigers on Saturday, said TELO sources in Batticaloa.
The TELO cadre, along with 3 other TELO and Razeek group cadres working on intelligence gathering had gone into an area controlled by the Tigers during a Hindu celebration ('Thiruvila') of Than Thanthonreeswarar Temple on June 7 said the sources. However, they had been identified by the Tigers. The other operatives were arrested, they said. Meanwhile, one Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed and four wounded when the Liberation Tigers fired mortars at the Maavadivembu SLA camp, 18 km north of Batticaloa, on Sunday. The SLA retaliated by firing mortars towards the Tiger held hinterland in the west, said ex-militant sources there. The dead soldier was identified as Lucksiri, 26 and the wounded soldiers have been identified as Samarakoon, 55, Vijesinge, 46, Amarasinge, 35, Ariyath Thenne, 33.
