Two missing after storm

Two persons are reported missing from Thirukovil, in the Amparai district, following a fierce storm that swept through the area on Tuesday morning between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m., said sources in Amparai.

Two young fishermen, Kantheeban and Silva, who had set out in a boat to fish had not returned by Wednesday evening, said sources.

The parents of the boys have requested the Ministry of Fisheries to send out search teams to find the missing, but their efforts have drawn a blank so far, said sources.

The storm destroyed eight fishing boats and expensive nets and other fishing gear that had been stored in them. The wind and the turbulent sea had also destroyed huts standing on the beach, said sources.
