One dead, another injured in separate incidents in Trincomalee

Mr.Weerakody (65), retired employee of the Sri Lanka Port Authority was shot dead Saturday night around 8.30 p.m. by unidentified men close to his house located in Orr's Hill area, a suburb in Trincomalee town. Large number of soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Navy rushed to the site and took several Tamil civilians residing close to the scene for questioning. They were released Sunday afternoon by the Police, sources said.

The unidentified men came in a motorbike and fired at the victim when he was guiding his son who was at the wheel of a lorry taking it inside the compound of the house of the deceased from the main road, police sources said.

Security forces set up roadblocks immediately surrounding the Orr's Hill area. Passengers were ordered to get down buses and other vehicles and were subjected to severe interrogation, sources said.

Meanwhile, Mr.Mayura aged 29, was shot Sunday afternoon near Linganagar, another suburb of east port town. He was taken to the Trincomalee general hospital with gun shot injuries, police said.

Government troops have been put on red alert following these incidents in Trincomalee and its suburbs.
