Protest Fast in Jaffna[TamilNet, Friday, 26 June 1998, 23:59 GMT]A token fast is staged opposite the Nallur Kandasamy temple today protesting at the treatment of prisoners detained without trial and other human rights violations committed by the Sri Lanka Government against the people of Jaffna said sources. The fast is organised by the Democratic People's Liberation Front (DPLF), Eelam Peoples' Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) and the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organisation (TELO). The groups have jointly appealed to the public to support their effort to highlight detention of prisoners without trial by the Sri Lanka Army, victimisation of innocent people by the security forces, the suffering of the relatives of those who had disappeared and other problems faced by the civilians. The Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) is not officially involved in the token fast, said sources. Meanwhile three persons of the same family were detained by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) at its camp in Kankesanthurai (KKS) on Monday, said sources in Jaffna. Kulasingrasa Sivanesaselvi (49), Kulasingrasa Dharshini (20) and K. Ramanan (17) are from Moolai, 20 km from Jaffna. Related Articles: 25.06.98 Fast unto death continues
