Rights commission to meet SLA officials in Jaffna

A delegation of members of the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and other civil rights activists are meeting high level officials of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) at the military head quarters in Palaly at 3.30 p.m. Monday, civil sources in Jaffna said. The discussions will center around the several disappearances in Jaffna district, and the attacks on civilians and journalists by the SLA soldiers, sources added.

In this meeting organized by the ffficials of the HRC, Rohitha Priyatharsana, Head of the HRC, Human Rights Attorney, Remedius, Attorneys at HRC, Mr K Kuganesan and Mr S Jeyarupan, Head of the NGOs consortium, K Vigeswaran, Head of Jaffna District Human Rights consortium, K Paramanathan, Member of Jaffna District Attorneys Union, Ms Santha Abimannasingham, President of Jaffna District Children Welfare Association, Dr K Suseendran, Representatives of HUDEC and Caritas and Jaffna Government Agent (GA) K Ganesh are expected to participate in the civilian delegation.

SLA Commander of Northern District Brigdier Chandrasiri and other SLA commanders will represent the Sri Lanka Army, sources said.
