Anbu Illam student wins poetry prize

A student from Anbu Illam, a children's home in Trincomalee, won the first prize of ten thousand rupees in an island wide-open poetry competition conducted by a Norway Tamil group. Miss Pakiyaluxmy, an GCE A/L Bio-Science student, received her prize money and savings book from Mr.S.Kumaraguruparan, Trincomalee District Deputy Director of the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization. in a ceremony held at the children's home Thursday.

Ms Siththithevi Pathmanathan, President of the Anbu Illam presided. Mr.K.Thurairajah, industrialist, Mr.V.Kalaivarnan, TRO Trincomalee Project Officer, Ms T.Rajeswary, Secretary of the Anbu Illam, Ms Nirmala Rajanathan, In-Service Advisor of the Zonal Education Office, Mr.N.Rajanathan, Principal, and Trincomalee Vikneswara Maha Vidiyalayam and Mr.Kumarakurubaran of TRO spoke at the event. Trincomalee Anbu Illam, which was started in the year 1985 to give shelter to children who lost their parents in ethnic violence, is now administered by the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO). About one hundred children live in the children's home located in east port town, sources said.
