Vidathaltivu war victims receive income generating aid

Seven hundred thousand rupees were distributed to fifty beneficiaries from war affected families in the Vidathaltivu in Mannar district Thursday afternoon at an event presided by the Vidathaltivu Village Co-ordinator, Mr Palisu, sources in Mannar said. The income generating project was implemented by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD).

Mr.A.Loganathan, TRP Project Officer for projects implemented under the aegis of NECORD described the importance of the event as an example of how community economic growth can be helped at grass roots level by such projects.

Mr.Santhakumar, Rural Development Officer, Mr.A.Varapragasam, Rural Development Society President, Deputy Director of NECORD and Rev.Fr.Arulnathan, Parish priest spoke.

Mr.Kandeepan, TRO Project Engineer handed over the financial assistance on loan basis to 51 beneficiaries. Of them 19 beneficiaries received at the rate twenty thousand rupees, and 32 at the rate of ten thousand rupees.
