Batticaloa local elections to select 128 councilors

318,728 registered voters in twelve local authorities will go to polls to elect 128 councilors in the forthcoming election in the Batticaloa district, said Mr.T.Krishnandalingam, Batticaloa District Returning Officer and District Assistant Commissioner of Elections. One municipal council and one urban council are among the twelve local authorities, election department sources said.

Representatives of five registered political parties and seven independent groups paid their deposit money and obtained their sets of nomination papers from the District Returning Officer as of last Friday, officials said.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), United National Party (UNP) and All Ceylon Muslim Congress are among the five parties paid their deposits. However no political party or independent group has submitted nomination papers till Friday evening, sources said.

Batticaloa Municipal Council- 51,395 voters; seats 19

Urban Council:

Kattankudy Urban Council 21,370 voters; 09 seats

Pradesiya Sabah:

Eravurpattu- 43,961 voters: 14 seats
Koralaipattu- 40.526 voters: 11 seats
Koralaipattu West: 17,653 voters: 09 seats
Eravur Nagar- 16,322 voters:09 seats
Koralaipattu North-11,768 voters; 11 seats
Manmunai South Eruvilpattu- 36,390; 10 seats
Manmunai- 17,769 voters;09 seats
Manmunai West- 16.057;09 seats
Manmunai South West- 14,511 voters;09 seats
Porativupattu - 28,006 voters; 09 seats.
