Mercy Corps organizes Food Processing Fair in Akkaraipattu

Two day Food Processing Fair is to be held in Akkaraipattu in Amparai district on 25th and 26th of February, with the aim of forging market linkages between national-level service and equipment providers and small scale food processors involved in curd production, milling, spice production, baking, fish drying, and cashew roasting, sources said. Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian organization with main offices in US, UK and Hong Kong is organizing the fair.
125 local and national food processing related enterprises in Amparai district have been invited to exhibit their products in the fair, which will be held at Athaullah Auditorium in Akkaraipattu, sources said. Mercy Corps began operations in Sri Lanka in January, and to date has supported over 230 projects through over 100 local partners in the districts of Trincomalee, Amparai and Hambantota in the activity areas of emergency relief for tsunami affected communities; livelihood recovery for conflict and to tsunami affected communities; community based tourism sector recovery, sources said.
